ok did a little more work today. got the trans torn apart and the diff turned around. also have the seats in now and am working on building a pedal slider (i know you can but them but I like building my own stuff) and also getting the gauges fitted in. got my removable steering wheel unit swapped on to here and started tearing the engine down to the block so i can repaint it black. also plan to pull the heads and figure out exactly what my deck height is as i really don't know whats going on there. was just told it was a 2180 by the previous owner. I got the shifter "working" i think. i found a really good deal on a cable shifter and may go that route, thoughts? also tracked down a mid engine exhaust that i may be able to trade my current exhaust for. can i get in to the dunes with a baffle in the megaphone or do they make a spark arrestor for that type of exhaust? anyway, here is how it sits for now. hope to have the engine painted and bolted in by the end of the weekend.

well i picked up some stuff this weekend at the buggy show. that was quite an experience. got a mid engine tri mil exhaust, spark arrestor for it, some new seat covers, fan belt guard, and some wheel adapters. working on cleaning the pipes up and got the new seat covers fitted on. hope to get the engine back in this week so i can start to put it all back together. will get pics as progress is made.

My opinion - the shifter is so so wnen new - after it gets some slop in all the joints it's bad. Messed with it forever and the best thing I found was a spring near the back - from the shift rod to the nosecone would put enough constant tension on all the joints so you could shift it.
But it was not great.

good to know. i got a lead on a cable shift brand cable shifter at a fraction of the purchase price that i think i may jump on and give a try.

ok some pictures of progress. we got my new seat covers that i picked up at the buggy show. pulled the old shifter as i have a cable shifter on the way. got the engine painted and dropped in the frame as well as bolted the exhaust i picked up this past weekend at the show as well. found a spark arrestor there and trimmed it down to fit the flange on the megaphone then welded it in place. i think it turned out pretty good.

waiting on a dual carb linkage kit... so no running which means no moving, and for that matter the brakes aren't hooked up so no stopping either. 0 for 3 haha

been forever since I've been on here last. life got crazy towards the end of the semester then i started interning 35 hours a week. well i finally got the motor all in and everything hooked up. installed all the wiring the other night and hooked up a battery. let the fuel pump furn for a little to get fuel in the lines then started cranking. she fired right up. now all that is left is to hook up the cable shifter, run brake and clutch lines, install the pedals and throttle cable. All that said, I'm seriously considering selling it, or at least trading for some other toy. with my busy schedule i feel as though i have no time to make it up to silver and the few times i might, it seems hard to see the value of it sitting in the barn taking up space... anyway, i might try and finish it up here in the next few weeks then take it out. guess we'll have to wait and see.
