Hi all! I'm new here as a member, been poking around some of the discussions for awhile. Silver Lake is an anual trip for my boyfriend, his family and some of our friends. Us "kids" (all in 20's) have rented various places out the last few years but this year we want to go back to tenting. The State Park seems like the best option as far as price, allowing 4 ppl. per site and being able to "party" (which I know will be limited no matter which campground you go to around there) it just sounds like they are a bit more tolerable than the others. We also know how busy the park is and how quickly it fills up. We're heading up mid-July and I can make our site reservations this weekend. Now here comes in where I need your suggestions: In our group there will be at least 6 adults so we're getting two sites. Everyone is staying in tents, we're driving up a Jeep JK and Tracker for the dunes. We want two sites next to each other and I'm thinking we want the non-water side cause it seems like it would be cold over by the water at night/AM and we'll be in tents... I have some sites in mind toward the back of the park but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a treeline or what. I see there is a boat trailer parking lot, I didn't know if the back sites are against that...? Can anyone recomend any particually nice sites for tents or sites to avoid? I know that I am new here but the excitment for Silver Lake is setting in and your help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks for the reply though! I stayed there a long time ago with my parents and it is a nice campground with lots to do right there which is nice- and clean but none of us have any kids so it's not really worth the $ for us there.

In the very back 149-157 are not to bad. The parking lot is back there but you don't see it through the tress. They are tricky for backing a trailer in but a tent would be fine. I also like 172 174 for camping with people. Nice site with a hill in the background so not too much for nieghbors. Not sure if this helps but that's what I would pick first on that side.

Dunedigger- that is great info, thank you! I am not familiar with the inside of the park at all so I am trying to visualize (other than the quick drive-bys of the park) Thanks!

Haven't camped there in years but, across the road first right,AVOID anything on the left ,base of hill,, tents only area. It is a low spot and All the rain water in the park drains onto those sites. Seen some very wet duners.. Sorry don't have numbers.

The sites digger is refering to are great for tents, Back against the parking lot which is very quiet. We are always on 151 and 153 over the 4th and we love it.

Okay well I called yesterday and we booked #117. It is the only one we need at this point (not sure now if the other ppl in our group will be able to go or not and I didn't want to wait- or pay for their whole reservation up front). The site looks to be on it's own, nothing on either side of site, I asked the 800 parks hotline and asked what IS next to it and I was told they weren't sure "probably trees." I am a bit paranoid about getting a site in a low area though- Watchers pics didn't help!

Ha ha! Guess that does sound pretty ridiculous when I read it again but it was an 800# for all MI state parks so (in their defense) I can't blame them for not knowing what every camp site in the state looks like...

yeah I'm planning on the state park for a week with tents. Hopefully it will be a nice place to stay. Do they check your vehicle to see if you have firewood with you or not. B/c buying it would prob. get pretty pricy
