Ideas to make things run smoothly:
Run the speaker signal wirelessly to the t-shirt tent and have some of the loudspeakers set up over there. I'm not sure on the price of equipment as I've never personally tried such a thing. I do know, however, that it is possible and not too bad to set up. You can use the electricity from the DNR bathroom if they will allow it, or run a second generator at the t-shirt stand.
There should be a pre-determined staging lane. Some of the problem with the speed of the hillclimb is waiting for the cars to get to the hill. When E class cars are running, E class cars should be in line, and D class cars should be called to staging.
The breakdowns are unavoidable and unexpected as you know, but the improved speakers would have helped a lot with that. Naturally I could hear everything because I wasn't only close to the speakers, but I was also close to the main tent. If everyone knew that it was a safety issue with the grader car, much few people would have complained about it.
I've said it before, but the timing lights need to be set up higher. They need to be set up high enough that cars cannot jump them and start timing on the back tires. The Sierra Sands car jumped the lights on at least one run that I saw, and gained approximately .8 seconds doing it. (3.7 seconds to 2.9 seconds.) I think it would be a simple matter to raise the lights, as you have lots of room on the steel posts they are mounted to. There's no reason that I know of to have them that low to the ground.
I agree with some points that both sides have made, but I also think that both sides are going too far. Yes, the MSBA does a good job with the hillclimb based on what resources they have, but yes they can also do better. If nobody puts on the show, there will be no show to watch; and if nobody complains, you will not know what needs to be/can be improved upon. There can be a middle ground, you just need to be able to see things objectively.
Am I missing anything?
Mary, Kyle, Paulie, Rich, anyone else I may have missed, I am asking you specifically.
