I was thinking...Most sites i get on have a shoutbox rather than a chatroom.  I never see anybody in the chatroom on here.  Is it an option to put up a shoutbox?

I don't know what a shoutbox is, so I'm going to hate it. I love chat when it is going and people are on it.

I don't really like the shouter box, sometimes people get carried away... I say the chat is fine, it just seems as everyone is busy with rebuilds, preparation, or family time before dune season!! :-)

I think the outbursts seen before are a thing of the past.  Those who always got into the arguments dont come around anymore, and sold/are selling off all their stuff.

It's a little like a chat room, only it's usually on the main page, and the messages don't go away. Someone can "shout" something, and 2 hours later someone else can reply to it, or "shout" something different.

It's pretty much a 6 or half dozen situation. Chat rooms work better for busy times, but shoutboxes work better for slower times.

Shoutbox is more of an instant thing, similar to the chat room.

Depending on the site, some are at the top of the page, on every page; and some are only on the main page.
You could be in the trucks section chatting with someone in the classifieds, or whatever, and not have to be in the chat room to do it.

Oh, and usually shoutboxes have a history log. You can see what was said for as far back as it goes.
The admins clear the log as they feel necessary.

The flash-based chat loses all info as soon as you exit the window.

I've been lurking on this shoutbox discussion for a while... kind of seeing where it goes. This has come up before and I chose not to implement it due to the front page in your face nature that it would display to visitors that may not exactly be appropriate.  I have concerns with a shoutbox but curious what everyone else thinks. I'm somewhat open to the idea, but still very cautious as to where it could go.
