I think of it this way...

If you were on the street in the USA, and a military Humvee was right behind you honking the horn like mad, would you pull over? Or would you stay in his way?

As far as I'm concerned the blaring horn is a "Please, may I go past you now?" and the gentle bump to the rear is "Ok, I asked you nicely, now it's time to move."
