I was just told by my boss to start looking for DOT inspection places for my work van. When I went to the place, I just mentioned that this was my first time and thought it was wierd. The guy said, "yeah, I think they want all 1 ton vehicles to start getting numbers"
Anyone else hear this?

We were stoped with our work vans. They are all 3/4 ton and had to get dot numbers for them because they are lettered.

I was pulled over because I didn't have the business name on ours once, but he didn't say anything about DOT numbers, just needed to have what business on it somewhere.

i think it started in mid 2009 and the DOT #s are free, so i have no idea what the purpose of it is other than to be able to charge $700 for a commercial plate, and they can pull you over and ticket you at this point although i have not seen it heavily enforced but it is a reason to be pulled over i had a magnetic sheet with my #s made so i could remove when ever i wanted

You should only require a DOT annual inspection if your commecial vehicle is over 9999 gvw, if i recall corectly. personal vehicles do not require them, only if use for a business. I do these inspections on semi tractorand medium duty trucks all the time.

any and all vehicles that has the name of a company on it will have dot numbers and if its pulling a trailer with a name on it it will have numbers, meaning all race teams with a sponsors name on it fall under this law which also means u need gvw plates if not fines start at about 500 dollars at thats set by the county,so if a cop see u in a cheap county he may wait and let you get to a higher fining county to stop u. any vehicles with dot number need inspections even if its a car. also if you do this dot thing you are limited to 65 ft in length,my motor home and trailer are 75 ft and i have no names on the trailer so there is no limit on length, mich and other states are enforcing this and its getting worse every day, things to think about take your stickers off and it a private vehicle

if it is non-articulating (no 5th wheel) and under 16000 lbs GVW you shouldnt need it. If your route goes outside a 100 mile air mile radius you may need to keep a log book but in a work van I doubt it. I can check at school for a definitive answer, I know I can find the correct answer there

you go to school and learn all you need then you go and get stop call me i want to be there when you explain to the cop that you went to school and they said this or that and id like to see your face when you get the big ticket. i can name some on this site that race as a sport and got tickets all ready.you tell me to go to that site and look up whats new, maybe you should just tell me where its at, im not reading 10 years of law changes when i read them every day so my trucks stay legal and thats a full time job without looking for some thing ive had to do for years, good luck with school let me know when ya know it all
